Thermostats

Before purchasing a thermostat, it's best to determine the kind of heating or cooling system you have. Nowadays, I always recommend purchasing a digital thermostat because they are more accurate as opposed to the old style mercury-bulb, toggle switch kind. You can get away with a straight cool type thermostat with almost any type of heating system except for a heat pump system. A common mistake that people do when they try to replace their thermostat, is that they purchase a regular type thermostat when they have a heat pump system and find out it doesn't work. When having a heat pump system, you need to make sure you purchase a heat pump type thermostat.

A/C maintenance by the home owner

I always get asked by the homeowner what they can do as preventative maintenance on their a/c system. The only thing you can do, and it's highly important, is to replace your air filters often (between 2-3 months) and if accessible, pour a cup of bleach down your drain line.

Replacing your filters results in keeping your coils clean, making you avoid the costly repair of getting your coils chemically cleaned and also makes your system run at its highest efficiency.

Pouring bleach down your drain line breaks up any gunk buildup in your drain line and keeps it free and clear, preventing it from clogging up and getting water overflowing onto your ceiling or floor.

If you're hot, call me!!!

So excited to announce our new tag line!

My friend came up with it as a joke. As we were jocking around at different gatherings, people seem to remember that I have an HVAC company.

My wife insisted on making cards and giving them out to friends just to be funny. And so I did!!! Not only my friends loved the cards, but people were coming to me asking for more. I was amassed that it had such a positive response.

We decided to make it Orion Heating and Air official tag line.

So there you have it:

What does SEER mean!!!

When an hvac technician comes to repair your or replace your system they first thing they talk about is seer ratings.

Seer stands for: seasonal, energy, efficiency, ratio!
The higher the seer number the more efficient the system is. As of the today the lowest seer you can get is 13 seer system and the highest is a 21 seer system.
Now you ask how do you determine what is the best seer system for you. Well that depends on your preference. Some manufactures have savings calculators on their websites, these can help you make the best choice.

How to get tax credit savings!

Did you know that you can get a government tax credit if you install a 15 seer or higher air conditioning system.
Although a higher seer system will be a bit more money, it's totally worth it.
Not only you will get a government tax credit but you will also get a higher efficient system that will save you money on your power bill. This is win/win!!
At Orion heating and air we provide you all the information needed to make it easy for you or your accountant to file for your credit.
